The wine that started it all
De Trafford Plan B
The Braaizeit adventure all began with a pallet of De Trafford’s Plan B wine. De Trafford Winery is located on a small farm between Stellenbosch and Somerset West in South Africa’s Western Cape. They have a very small production made by owner and winemaker David Trafford. The focus is on red wines and since 2005 they have been producing “Plan B”.
This is a “second” wine made from barrels that David was not entirely happy with and is only available to a private mailing list and a few select customers. Glyn and Niels have been buying “Plan B” since its introduction in 2005, they have bought the wine every year, never been able to taste the wine before buying it because it is sold so exclusively and every year it sells out within a week of its release. They have not been disappointed once in 15 years and this is also a wine that can be cellared and enjoyed for years to come.
We have included bottles of the 2019 vintage from the private collections of the Rudolph’s and the Van Niekerk’s in the wine packges that are currently available via our website or email us: howzit@braaizeit.de

Our very first collaboration wine was made with our friends Maximilian and Phillip Petri. A very small quantity of BraaiZeit Edition 1 Der Grundstein, a refreshing Pinot Blanc, which was sold to our founding members.
Between 130 and 250 metres above sea level, the Petri vines grow on 21 hectares around Herxheim am Berg, the highest location on the German wine route. The vines produce excellent wine on the south facing slopes in the lee of the Haardt Mountains. 14 Generations of grape cultivation and viticulture in the Palatinate. Today multiple generations work together harmoniously to produce wines that meet the high standards of the Petri Family.

We currently have a few wine packages on offer. All packages contain some fresh, summer drinking, Petri Pinot Blanc as well as a bottle of De Trafford Plan B 2019 vintage. Some of the packages contain bottles of CWG auction wines, from Niels private collection. It is not often that he lets go of his treasures, so don’t miss out on th4e opportunity to own some of these rare bottles. These beautiful wines are not widely available and reflect the best that the South African wine industry has to offer.
Limited stock of the 2020 vintage of De Trafford Plan B is also available (please email directly if you are interested).
Every now and again Niels also opens his cellar door and we get a peek inside. Follow us on Social Media, where we will give you a “#PeekBehindTheCellarDoor” for stories and news about the wines we have on offer or that we are working on with top winemakers both in Germany and in South Africa.
