BraaiZeit started with a friendship between 2 multicultural couples, German and South African. We met at a real South African braai in Johannesburg. Together we have traveled extensively and enjoyed more than a few bottles of good wine along the way, we also all share a passion for great food, excellent wines and brilliant company!
We independently embarked on our most recent trip and we all moved to Germany, first the Rudolphs in 2017 and then the Van Niekerks in 2018.
Good food needs
Our very first collaboration wine was made with our friends Maximilian and Phillip Petri. A very small quantity of BraaiZeit Edition 1 Der Grundstein, a refreshing Pinot Blanc, which was sold to our founding members.

German and South African cultures harmonise beautifully – the German’s have a long tradition of making and eating a variety of different sausages and South Africans are particularly proud of their traditional sausage, called Boerewors.
Our internal Boerewors expert, Johann, worked for months with our chosen local butcher to commercialise his family’s recipe and ensure we meet German health and safety standards while staying true to the typical South African flavours and textures.
